Fear took over you
A poem by Aline Charles
“I can do it.”
Can you?
“I can do it.”
…Can you?
Why do you instill doubt in yourself?
Doubting oneself is a fierce devil of the human being,
so why do you come and instill some more?
Why do you come and inflict my pain?
My potential
is bigger than yours.
It is bigger, only because I believe in it.
You drown yours and drown mine
because you’re afraid of it.
So I will excuse you, I will excuse you for the pain you inflict me
the painful delay you’re forcing upon me
But know that it is painful
and I might just want to fly away.
I don’t want to hear it
I don’t want to
I don’t want to.
Please let me breathe.
Stop creeping in.
Please let me breathe.
I can’t take it
Distance,
will be my reaction.
And pain,
is the only emotion you will provoke in me.
No, I don’t love you;
I’m still loving you.
I’m just shocked by the pain,
and fear took over you.
Did fear take over your love for me?
